1. What is your most memorable meal that you ate in your life and why?
Chicken and Dumplings, I made this a while back in my steamer and it was during winter so to snuggle up in a blanket with a bowl of this and watch an old movie is divine to me. I love comfort food.
2. Why did you start a food blog?
It was at first to share recipes with my closest friends only but then I guess I wanted to stretch myself and so I began to promote it more and to my surprise I picked up a lot of new friends and followers.
3. What is your favorite restaurant, where and why?
I still love Dave & Buster's because I'm a kid at heart. Hubby and I used to go there every week when we lived in Florida. I love to eat and then go play the games, in fact that's how I started collecting stuffed animals because I would win them when I would turn in my tickets!
4. Which are your 3 most favorite chefs in the whole world and why?
First would be my mom although she was not a chef and in fact didn't like to cook but she could cook and that's how I learned. Second is my grandma who was also my favorite cook - she taught me how to make things from scratch and she loved to cook until she succumbed to rheumatoid arthritis and could no longer cook. And, I guess my 3rd favorite cook would be my friend Jo who can cook or bake anything! I haven't tried a meal yet that she made I didn't like.
5. What was your favorite recipe on your own blog and why?
The Perfect White Rice. I had been trying for years to get my rice to be like my mother's was and finally I found the secret and so now when I make it, it comes out right every time. The recipe is at the bottom of this post!
6. To which music do you listen to when you cook and bake & why?
To my amazement, I don't listen to music as I cook, but if I did it would be classical. Something Beethoven or Vivaldi or Mozart. Classical music just seems to go hand in hand with cooking in the kitchen.
7. What is the strangest food that you have ever eaten and did you like it or not?
Don't think I've ever eaten anything strange, because I know my body and how sensitive it is.
8. If you could visit a food destination in the world, where would it be and why?
I love Italian food, so definitely would love to visit Italy (Venice in particular).
9. What is your most favorite food shop in the world and why?
I like bakeries myself, because desserts are always calling out my name! LOL! The smells, the chocolate, the frostings, the fruity pastries, the scent of homemade bread baking in the oven, I love that!
10. Which kitchen gadget do you love the most and why?
My chef's knife, because I love how it chops up my ingredients. I didn't have one for a long time and I really struggled. When I got a better knife, it just made preparation so much easier.
The Perfect White Rice Recipe
2 c. long grain rice
3-1/2 c. water or you can use stock
1 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. kosher salt
Mix ingredients together in a pot over low to medium heat and cover. I have an electric stove so low to medium is 4 for me. The trick here is not to peek - leave that top on!! After about 18 minutes, turn heat down to low (which for me is 2 to 3 on my stove), cook for 2 to 3 more minutes. Rice should be fluffy about this point, add more butter and salt if you want to your own taste. I like buttery rice myself! Serve.
