My Mistakes won't take me Away from God

November 15, 2016

The title for the post came off a pin on Pinterest and when I saw it, I knew I had to write about this.

We all make them...mistakes, bad decisions, things we've done we wish we could get a do-over...maybe things we've said we wish we could take back. Sometimes, our bad choices affected others close to us and it broke our heart. But, no matter...The Lord still loves us and won't let these poor choices ruin His relationship to us and we shouldn't either.

I grew up sitting in an empty room many times upset at myself for the dumb decisions I was making. At the time, I didn't know The Lord and I didn't know my choices affected Him. I learned that later on.

There are some choices I made that never left me. It was the aftereffects that I couldn't change and it is hard at times because I know my options could be better had I not messed up. But, that said, I have two choices: (a) I can feel sorry for myself and be kicking myself everyday; or (b) I can acknowledge the mistake, repent of it, and allow The Lord's grace to take shape in my life.

Allowing our Mistakes to Overshadow us is just Wrong.

The enemy of our souls would love for us to wallow around in self pity, anger, frustration, and bitterness. These negative feelings keep us from being all God wants us to be. They keep us from making progress and they sure keep us from enjoying all the blessings Jesus has for us.

The fact is, we all sin. We all fall down, but it's how we get back up that makes the difference. It takes time to correct wrongs we do, but it's worth it when God is in the picture. I knew I could not overcome my faults on my own, I needed the power of God to help me.

Don't keep telling yourself it's hopeless.

I used to do that. I thought I had done so much harm that there was no way for me to be forgiven. When we stay in a hopeless state, we just sink lower.

Now, I'm not condoning just living life without thinking of the consequences and then hoping God will just forgive us. There's responsibility involved and we have to take ownership of our life's choices especially when it will affect someone else.

Sometimes, when we were younger we didn't think that way, I know I didn't! Who thinks about what life will be like at age 55 when you're 20? Sometimes we don't listen to the older generation who knows better and we unfortunately stumble through the years.

If you have thought like me that there's no chance for redemption, I want to encourage you today that God is NOT done with you. He made you for a specific purpose, you have worth.

Don't let your mistakes take you away from God.

  1. Good words...Self condemnation is one of the enemy's favorite weapons to use against us. It's a hard but worthy battle to win. "For the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught." Proverbs 3:26

    1. Thanks Sis! I've let my mistakes in past get me down before so this is a good reminder to me that no matter how much I fall and get back up, Jesus will be there for me and get me back on the right path!
