I Want to Finish my Race StrongSunday, December 04, 2016
When hubby and I were relocating from the east coast, there was a moment in the driving where we knew there was no turning back. It was when we were half way to our destination. I'm sure we've all faced times when we made a decision and then had second thoughts. Sometimes, you beat the bear and sometimes the bear beats you. That doesn't mean the war is won though.
One of my mom's strengths was her tenacity to not give up, to finish strong. She worked hard to try to raise us two kids on her own. She made mistakes along the way, but it didn't stop her from achieving and we all made it through. I loved her fight and I think it's one of the traits I got from her. I'm highly competitive, resourceful, and if you tell me it can't be done, I'm going to try to find a workaround. I don't like to lose. And, I don't want to come this far only to go out in a blaze of glory. I'll go down with the fight, thank you very much! I want God to be proud of me in the end, I want all He has for me.
The enemy of our souls is out there working hard to take as many with him as possible. Some of them are our family members, friends, and acquaintances...people we love and care for. He's lied to the whole world because his agenda is to thwart everything good that The Lord does. Our job is to live out the life Jesus died to give us and witness to the world that our souls will live on and we want our loved ones forever living with us in Heaven. This world will pass away but God will not.
I know The Lord wants us to finish our individual race. Remember what Jesus asked His disciples in John 6:67, "Will you leave me also?" Many of the people that followed Jesus did so only because of the miracles He performed, but they didn't want Him as their Lord and Savior. They didn't want to be close to Jesus and live according to His Word. Today is the same... there might even be areas of your life that you still try to handle yourself rather than giving it entirely to Jesus. If we want total victory, we must submit to Christ 100%. And I'm preaching first to myself because I have a bad tendency to want to fix problems myself and it usually gets me into trouble.
In the end, it won't matter about all the degrees we possess, the clothes we wear, the places we vacation to, none of it will matter. What will, however is... what did you do with Jesus once you believed? Let's finish this race and go out strong!
