Picking Colors in your FashionThursday, February 02, 2017
I love color and it's such a big part of my life: in my work as a graphics professional, my wardrobe, especially the hats I choose, and how I decorate. Color invokes mood. And it affects us all differently. Today, I'm focusing on colors in fashion.
I took a color theory class many years ago that I found really intriguing. From my skin tone, I can balance colors between fall and winter so golds and browns look nice on me as much as purples and reds. I also love wearing neutrals. And I feel differently when I wear certain colorways. For example, I feel light and pretty like a little girl when I wear pink, which is my favorite color. Pink is a playful, happy color.
When I wear purple or red, I feel more forthright or confident although I'm more soft spoken. And when I wear neutrals, I feel light and airy.
I've begun to really love greens and blues. Blue was always considered a corporate office color when I worked for offices in the 80s and 90s. It's a de-stress color. Green was never my favorite until about a couple of years ago. The new shades like mint and lime I really like. I picked up a mid-tone lime hat from the thrift store and I matched it with a lime scarf to tie as a bow around the band. And, then I wore the hat with a lime color ruffled sweater and darker green flower printed skirt. The hat was the center piece that made the whole outfit come together and I really felt pretty.
A few weeks later, I picked up a darker olive green hat and paired it with a lighter lime and white polka dot scarf for the bow around the band. Two slightly different green shaded hats but really pretty. I need to put together an outfit for the olive green hat! Maybe next week when I go shopping...
Other colors I'm working on are orange and peach. I was never a big fan of either but I have some awesome oversized scarves that I turned into kimonos and I'm anxious to find an orange dress to go with them!
Some of my favorite color combos to wear are: black and white, blue and white, and gray and black. What colors do you like to wear?
