How to Put Fear in its Place

March 11, 2017

Fear itself can be a good thing when we use it to take our time making a decision. It comes in handy when using a chef's knife, a hammer, or driving a car because we respect these items and know that as easily as they can help us but if used improperly however, the results can be catastrophic.

But for the most part, fear takes on a more sinister role. The enemy of our souls uses it well. It can be fear of the unknown, or have I prepared for the future?, or any number of things. We all have concerns that turn into fears. The other night as I was doing my daily Bible study, the verse for that day was 2 Timothy 1:7, "For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of love, power, and of a sound mind." (KJV).  God calls it the "spirit of fear". That means fear is coming from Satan. The second part of the verse is that God gives us love, power, and a sound mind (calming mind).

As I studied further, this scripture came up..." perfect love casts out fear" (1 John 4:18 KJV). Satan uses fear as a way to torment our souls and conjuring up scenarios in our minds to get us thinking of "what could happen". Fear then paralyzes so that we're afraid to do anything. But when we let the love of God permeate us, fear has no place to stay. I grew up with fear in my home and it followed me all through schooling and into adulthood. But, I really feel it's time to put it in its place. I love the song, "No Longer Slaves", read the lyrics:

"No Longer Slaves"

You unravel me with a melody
You surround me with a song
Of deliverance from my enemies
'Til all my fears are gone

[2x]
I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

From my mother's womb
You have chosen me
Love has called my name
I've been born again
Into your family
Your blood flows through my veins

[4x]
I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

I am surrounded
By the arms of the father
I am surrounded
By songs of deliverance

We've been liberated
From our bondage
We're the sons and the daughters
Let us sing our freedom

You split the sea
So I could walk right through it
My fears were drowned in perfect love
You rescued me
And I could stand and sing
I am a child of God...

You split the sea
So I could walk right through it
You drowned my fears in perfect love
You rescued me
And I will stand and sing
I am a child of God

Yes, I am
I am a child of God
I am a child of God
Yes, I am
I am a child of God
Full of faith
Yes, I am a child of God
I am a child of God

[3x]
I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

Here's a video from Bethel Church, what a powerful song!

We don't have to give in to fear, we are children of God! If you don't know Jesus today, then please give your heart to Him, confess your sins and ask Him to be your Savior and Lord today. Ask Him sincerely to fill you with His Holy Spirit and He will.

The Bible says Jesus will not turn away a repentant soul. And if you have made Him your Savior and Lord, find a Bible-believing church that isn't afraid to preach God's truth. We need the company of other Christians so we can build each other up. Together, we will overcome fears and all the whiles of the devil. May God bless you abundantly today.
