Why I Like Crochet So Much

If you've been following me for awhile, you know that I learned to crochet when I was 12. The very first pattern I made was a prayer shawl and I made many for the older ladies in my church. I didn't read patterns at the time and so this was the only thing I knew how to make. I got bored and put it down for many years and picked up five years ago.

But, why do I like crocheting?

Rediscovering it was amazing to me. I got to a point with my work as a graphic designer that I wanted to get away from designing on a computer and make things with my hands. I prayed that I could find some kind of hobby. God opened doors for me when we moved to Oregon and when I was re-introduced to it, I learned to read patterns, expand my skills to go beyond shawls, and I was able to sell many of my items. The journey has been incredible.

The idea of using my hands to make something pretty but useful, wearable, or decorative leaves me with the feeling of doing something I was called to do. Lots of people know young what they want to do and some get to do it and others don't. I'm the latter. But, with God... He knows how to take a detour and still get you to where He wants you to be. I'm so blessed to be able to crochet and when I'm making something I'm in my element.

Sometimes, what I make doesn't always turn out the way I want, but I never get down about it. I learn from what I did and I go back and alter the pattern and makes notes of what I did to change it and start again. I just enjoy it that much. I hope you are doing what God called you to do because it's a true blessing to use the gifts He gives us as much as it is fulfilling for our hearts!
