Keeping my Blog Functional

I don't do this every day or every week but a couple of times a month, I like to take a look at my blog and move some things around and even remove features that are no longer needed. The main reason for it is to keep the blog functional and user friendly as well as inviting. Blogs are not like static websites, they change every time we post. But, sometimes the look, design or features need to be changed. Some widgets become outdated or bog down the load time. Sometimes, you just need to see a different look altogether.

My hubby can tell you that many times he's gotten up the next day only to find the furniture rearranged. He'll ask me, "when did you do all this and why?" Most times it was around 3 AM in the morning when I did it and my answer usually was, "The house needed a change!"

I also look at other blogs for inspiration. I do that a lot. And one thing I was beginning to dislike was all the sidebar widgets I once had. For one, widgets can slow down the load speed depending on what its function is. That, I don't like. I'm impatient when I'm on the web. If a page doesn't open for me in about 10 to 12 seconds, I'm usually gone. Most of the time, I'm looking for a quick answer and I don't have a lot of time to wait.

And I don't want my readers to come here and have to wait a long time for the blog to load. Also, I want it to be easy to find specific posts so I have moved my topics to the top of the sidebar rather than just leaving it at the bottom. I also wanted to add a way that's easy to visit my shop site which I sell crafty, fashion, beauty products from. It was at the bottom and not visually seen so I moved up towards the top just above the slideshow.

I also went from having 2 menus to just 1 at the top of the blog. Too many links to click on can be overwhelming. It's like going to the store to buy ibuprofen and you find 12 different types, it makes the choice harder. I have plans for other tweaks but the main purpose is that the blog is pleasing to look at, the content interesting, the photography top notch, and it functions like it should!
