Choose Happy

One of the greatest gifts God gave us is choice. It can be a blessing but also a curse depending on how and what we choose. I know I made poor choices especially when I was younger cause I was just plain stupid! Now that I'm older and "wiser" (from hard knocks), I don't take choice lightly.

Before I got saved, I was diagnosed manic depressive. So, one day I was high spirited and nothing could bring me down followed by the next day that I couldn't get out of bed. I attempted suicide many times but God had other plans for me. When I gave my heart to Jesus, He healed me of many mental illnesses. And, as I studied the Bible more and more, I knew I wanted His joy.

In prayer one afternoon, I heard the voice of The Lord speak to me saying, "choose to be happy." I thought, "could it be that simple?" Yes, it can. See, us humans make everything more difficult. We think there has to be more to something. If the computer stops working, we think a program is corrupt, or it's infected with a virus or malware but we never think that maybe the plug is loose or the battery needs recharging.

I don't think Jesus ever meant that living under grace would be difficult to do. He said, "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." Matthew 11:29-30 (NKJV). The difficulty in living for God and making right choices is sin. The world has one view and God the opposite. But, rather than choose Him, we choose our friends, what the magazines and media say, or what some so-called expert recommends. And when we are persuaded to go in a different way, we get into trouble.

God is not a barbarian in Heaven pointing fingers down at us ready to strike us down. He wants us to choose Him because as a parent to a child, He knows the road ahead. He knows what direction will lead us to safety. The enemy is out there and he wants the world without God's protection and the Christians ineffective. Now is the time to choose right. Tomorrow might be too late. We don't know the next day, we don't have but the moment we breathe now. Choose Jesus' way and choose happy.
